The Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) offers Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) to pursue research in the scientific fields of solar physics, space and atmospheric science, and planetary science. The application process is ongoing and the deadline for submitting the application form is April 20. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online through the official PRL website at

Interviews at PRL, Ahmedabad will take place from 27-29 April.

“PRL JRFs will be encouraged to apply for a PhD. degree from an institute/university with which PRL has a Memorandum of Understanding. PRL Research Fellows will adhere to the standards of the institute/university of registration as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding,” the official website reads.

JRFs will start working at the PRL in July 2022. (subject to local COVID-19 conditions).

PRL age limit: The maximum age limit for applicants is expected to be 28 on July 1, 2022.

PRL scholarship: Junior Research Fellows (JRF) are paid 31,000 per month, while Senior Research Fellows (SRF) are paid 35,000 per month (as governed by Department of Space guidelines).

After two years, JRFs will be assessed and the JRF may be awarded the position of SRF with an enhanced scholarship based on the recommendations of the review committee and the approval of the PRL Director. The performance of the research fellows will be evaluated on an annual basis in order for the fellowship to be renewed.
