Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the ATLAS group of the Department of Physics.
This is a position within the ATLAS group to work on the physical exploitation of the large ATLAS dataset. Participation in performance studies of jets and other reconstructed objects will also be encouraged. The group has a long history of involvement in ATLAS Trigger/DAQ activities. He is currently leading several areas of detector operation and upgrades for the High-Luminosity LHC run. These include trigger software, data acquisition software, and hardware. The group is involved in ATLAS data analyzes in the fields of top quark physics, Higgs physics and the search for exotic signals. ATLAS team members are also world experts in statistical methods applied to particle physics and involved in various new analytical techniques.
This position will involve working within the RHUL ATLAS team in one of the analytical areas listed above. An important objective of this work is also to contribute to the development of new statistical and machine learning methods applied to particle physics. The incumbent of this position will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the RHUL Center for Particle Physics, submit publications to peer-reviewed journals, and work with and help supervise PhD and MSc students.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in experimental particle physics or a closely related field, as well as relevant previous experience in one or more of the following areas: (i) particle physics data analysis; (ii) particle physics software; (iii) advanced statistical methods.

This is a full-time position, available from 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term of 37 months at Royal Holloway, University of London. It is expected that the ATLAS group will seek an extension of this position for a further 36 months.
