Postdoctoral Research Fellow (A), School of Physical Sciences job with UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE
(Level A) $89,610 – $96,007 per year plus employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.
A fixed-term position, offered for a period of 3 years, starting on a mutually agreed date. Any extension beyond 3 years would be contingent on future funding, which cannot be guaranteed at this time.
The High Energy Physics Group at the University of Adelaide has a position available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will work on the GAMBIT project for a period of 3 years from 2022. The Research Associate will be jointly supported by the ARC Center of Excellence for Dark Matter Particles. Physics and Pawsey Center for Extreme scale Readiness (https://pawsey.org.au/pacer/).
GAMBIT – the Beyond the Standard Global and Modular Model Inference Tool – is an open source software code for making global adjustments to new physical models. The position will consist of working on the optimization of the GAMBIT code, while conducting studies that apply the tool to dark matter physics topics. We are therefore looking for a phenomenologist in particle physics or particle astrophysics with very strong computer skills. In-depth knowledge of C++, Python and/or FORTRAN would be an advantage. Thanks to the ARC Center of Excellence for Particle Physics in Dark Matter and the GAMBIT collaboration, it will be possible to work intensively with national and international researchers in the field of colliders and dark matter physics. . The Pawsey Center for Extreme Scale Readiness provides access to an outstanding national team of high-performance computing experts to help with code optimization work.
The School of Physical Sciences at the University of Adelaide hosts strong high energy physics groups working on the ATLAS, Belle II, CTA, HESS, IceCube, LIGO, Pierre Auger and SABER experiments. A close collaboration between theoreticians and experimentalists is actively encouraged within our group.

To be successful, you will need:
- A PhD or equivalent degree (or a defended thesis) in theoretical particle physics in a field relevant to particle astrophysics.
- A commitment to research excellence in theoretical particle physics and a demonstrated publication history in leading scientific journals.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work effectively as a member of a research team.
- Very good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
- Advanced analytical and computer skills, including knowledge of Python, C++ and/or FORTRAN.
- A background in code optimization or a strong desire to learn.
- Optional: Existing knowledge of GAMBIT code would be helpful, but is not an essential requirement.
