Online booking for Royal Institution events is handled by a third-party service, Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.co.uk).

To book Royal Institution events through Eventbrite, users must register with Eventbrite and set up a user account with a unique email and password. All information provided by you or collected by Eventbrite in connection with the Services is governed by Eventbrite’s Privacy Policy, a copy of which can be found at www.eventbrite.com/privacypolicy. The Royal Institution reserves the right to send you emails regarding the specific event(s) you have booked.

mistakes

Errors made by you when entering your details are your responsibility and the Royal Institution will not be held responsible for any inconvenience caused by providing incorrect personal details, and we will not offer refunds on accidental purchases carried out. It is your responsibility to verify the accuracy of the tickets issued to you.

Event Partners

The Royal Institution occasionally organizes events in partnership with other organisations, learned societies and charities. In this case, we reserve the right to share your details with these third parties, only for the purpose of providing you with information relating to this event.

Refund and exchange of tickets

The Royal Institution will only guarantee a refund if the event is canceled by us. Our liability in this case will be limited to the face value of your tickets.

If you wish to cancel your reservation, you must inform us 24 hours before the start of the event.

Eventbrite Reservations

The Royal Institution may allow users to request refunds for tickets purchased online through Eventbrite, at our discretion.

To request a refund, users must log in to their personal Eventbrite account.

Telephone reservations

If you purchased tickets over the phone and wish to cancel your reservation, you must call us at least one business day before the start of the event. To request a refund, please telephone 020 7409 2992 or email [email protected]

Free tickets can be released at any time by the user free of charge.

short science courses

For short science courses, participants can request a refund up to 7 days before the start of the course. After this period, no refund can be offered.

Member tickets

You should ensure that you only book tickets for which you are eligible based on your membership level at the time of the event. The Royal Institution reserves the right to cancel your ticket if the membership ticket eligibility criteria are not met.

Concessions

Reduced tickets are available for the following groups:

  • 60 years or older
  • 16 or younger
  • Full-time students
  • Unpaid
  • Any beneficiary of Universal Credit
  • disabled

Payment

For online payments processed through Eventbrite, payments can be made with American Express, MasterCard, Visa, or Visa Debit.

Payments made over the phone are processed by a Tier 1 DSS compliant secure payment processor. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Visa Delta, Maestro and American Express. We cannot accept Solo, Visa Electron or Diners cards.

Reservations on behalf of a group of people

If you are booking on behalf of a group, you agree to these terms and conditions on behalf of all members of your group and are responsible for all payments due from the group.

Age adaptation

Unless otherwise stated, our public events are suitable for ages 15+. However, for most events, young children are more than welcome with parental permission.

Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. If you are unsure whether an event is suitable for a young person, please contact the public program team at [email protected]

Freedom of expression

The Royal Institution is a forum for the free and open discussion of ideas, and we recognize the fundamental importance of freedom of expression within the law. Any speakers who contribute to any of our programs represent their own views and do not necessarily represent the views of the Royal Institution.

Refund and exchange of tickets

If you have purchased tickets over the phone and wish to cancel your booking, please call 020 7409 2992 or email [email protected] If you purchased tickets through Eventbrite and want to cancel your reservation, you’ll need to log in to your personal Eventbrite account. You can only request a refund if you have canceled your ticket at least two weeks (14 days) before the start date of the workshop. After this date, a refund may possible, but only if there is someone on the waiting list who can take your place.

Age restrictions

The summer school workshops are strictly reserved for students respecting the age criteria announced for each event. We cannot accept bookings for students outside of these ages and any bookings made for students who are not the correct age at the time of the workshop will be cancelled. This is to ensure that the students attending can get the most out of their experience.

Other information

Workshops that run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. include a lunch break and students should bring a packed lunch and drink. For 16 to 18 year olds, students will be allowed to leave the building during this break. For 13-15 year olds, only when permission has been given at the time of booking will students be allowed to leave unsupervised. For children ages 7-9 and 10-12, students will be fully supervised and permitted to leave the building only with their responsible adult.

Event Changes

The Royal Institution reserves the right to make changes to speakers, event content, event schedule and/or event location, and will make reasonable efforts to contact members public to inform them of any changes. The Royal Institution will not be held responsible for any changes made to the advertised event.

Right of refusal and search

The Royal Institution reserves the right to refuse you admission if, in its reasonable opinion, your admission to the venue could:

  • represent a risk to the safety of the public and/or yourself, and/or
  • Affect the enjoyment of audience members, and/or
  • Affect the course of the event

For example, if you act aggressively and/or appear to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, you will be refused admission. We may also ask you to leave (taking any appropriate action that may be necessary to enforce this right) before or during the events for any of the reasons set out above. In the event of refusal of admission or departure, you will not be entitled to any reimbursement. The Royal Institution may also, on certain occasions, be required to carry out security searches to ensure your safety.

Children

All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult in the theatre. The Royal Institution reserves the right to refuse admission to an unaccompanied child under the age of 11.

Latecomers

The Royal Institution will, in most cases, be able to seat you if you arrive late for an event. However, we reserve the right to refuse you admission if you do not arrive at the start of the event. We also reserve the right to resell your ticket if you have not arrived at the start of the event. In this case, we will endeavor to find you a place to sit or stand, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Filming and recording

By attending a Royal Institution event, members of the public consent to be filmed, live streamed, recorded and photographed. Members of the public grant the Royal Institution the right to use recordings of any type made of their presence in all media, and in advertising and promotion relating to the Royal Institution. School parties must ensure that the appropriate parental permission is obtained before attending any Royal Institution event.

Unauthorized use of photographic, sound or cinematographic equipment in the hall is strictly prohibited. If you would like to use this equipment, please contact the events team before the start of the event. Copyright is assigned to the Ri for all event recordings produced by the Ri. Unauthorized check-in may result in the destruction of content and your removal from the event without a ticket refund.

Electronic equipment

All electronic equipment, especially cell phones, must be muted before entering the Theater and/or any other space where events are taking place.

Smoking

The Royal Institution operates a non-smoking policy throughout its building.

Some special events, for example CHRISTMAS CONFERENCES, have general reservation and participation conditions which supersede those indicated here. In these cases, we will inform you of the new terms and conditions when booking.
