The Lawrence Fellowship is a highly competitive postdoctoral position at LLNL that is open to all technical disciplines. Fellows are free to pursue their own independent research program with subject matter experts who provide guidance and mentorship. Fellowships are awarded to applicants with exceptional talent, scientific background and potential for significant achievement. Fellowship details can be found at http://fellowship.llnl.gov

Applicants should submit a CV, a 3-4 sentence research impact statement, a research proposal of no more than 6 pages, three references for letters of recommendation and transcripts. Once you have submitted your application, you can go back and make updates. All application updates and attachments must be submitted by October 1, 2022.

In this role, you will

  • Conduct research and/or development work described in your research proposal in one or more of the following fields: atmospheric sciences, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, geosciences, energy, lasers, materials science, mathematics and physics.
  • Pursue independent research interests with outstanding scientists both internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to achieve research goals.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present findings at external conference seminars and/or technical meetings.
  • Review research progress with the laboratory’s directed research and development program.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

    Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant scientific field.
  • Demonstrated creativity, exceptional ability and proven achievement in the candidate’s area of ​​specialization through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a research project that has an impact on national security or society.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication with their technical peers and with a broad interdisciplinary audience.

    This is a postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are those who have obtained a doctorate at the time of the date of employment.
