Therefore, students should take the practical part seriously so that they can improve their overall grades. They must know the practical program and the evaluation scheme and must learn the stepbystep procedure for carrying out all the experiments mentioned in the program below. PRACTICE (Total number of periods: 60)
The file, to be submitted by the students during their annual exam, must include:
 Recording of at least 8 experiments [with 4 from each section]to be done by the students.
 Recording of at least 6 activities [with 3 each from section A and section B]to be done by the students.

SECTION–A
Experiences
1. To measure the diameter of a small spherical/cylindrical body and to measure the internal diameter and depth of a given beaker/calorimeter using a caliper and thereby find its volume.
2. To measure the diameter of a given wire and the thickness of a given sheet using a screw gauge.
3. To determine the volume of an irregular blade using a screw gauge.
4. Determine the radius of curvature of a spherical surface given by a spherometer.
5. Determine the mass of two different objects using a beam balance.
6. Find the weight of a given body using the law of parallelogram vectors.
7. Using a simple pendulum, plot its LT^{2} graph and use it to find the effective length of a second’s pendulum.
8. Study the variation of the period of a simple pendulum of a given length by taking balls of the same size but of different masses and interpret the result.
9. Investigate the relationship between limit friction force and normal reaction and find the coefficient of friction between a block and a horizontal surface.
10. Find the downward force along an inclined plane acting on a roller due to the earth’s gravitational pull and investigate its relation to the angle of inclination θ by drawing a graph between the force and Sinθ.
Activities
1. Make a paper scale of a given minimum number, for example 0.2 cm, 0.5 cm.
2. Determine the mass of a given body using a metric scale according to the principle of moments.
3. Plot a graph for a given set of data, with an appropriate choice of scales and error bars.
4. Measure the limit frictional force for rolling a roller on a horizontal plane.
5. Study the variation in range of a projectile with the angle of projection.
6. Study the energy conservation of a rolling ball on an inclined plane (using a double inclined plane).
7. Investigate the energy dissipation of a simple pendulum by plotting a graph between the square of the amplitude and the time.
SECTION–B
Experiences
1. Determine the Young’s Modulus of Elasticity for a given yarn material.
2. Find the force constant of a coil spring by plotting a graph between load and extension.
3. Study the variation of volume with pressure for a sample of air at constant temperature by plotting curves between P and V, and between P and 1/V.
4. Determine the surface tension of water by the capillary rise method.
5. Determine the coefficient of viscosity of a given viscous liquid by measuring the terminal velocity of a given spherical body.
6. Investigate the relationship between the temperature of a hot body and time by plotting a cooling curve.
7. Determine the specific heat capacity of a given solid by the method of mixtures.
8. Investigate the relationship between frequency and length of a given wire under constant tension using a sound level meter.
9. Investigate the relationship between the length of a given wire and the voltage at constant frequency using a sound level meter.
10. Find the speed of sound in air at room temperature using a resonance tube by two resonance positions.
Activities
1. Observe the change of state and plot a cooling curve for the molten wax.
2. Observe and explain the effect of heating on a bimetallic strip.
3. Note the change in level of liquid in a container on heating and interpret the observations.
4. Study the effect of detergent on the surface tension of water by observing capillary rise.
5. Investigate the factors affecting the rate of heat loss from a liquid.
6. Investigate the effect of load on the vacuum of a properly clamped meter scale loaded at (i) its end (ii) in the middle.
7. Observe the decrease in pressure with increasing velocity of a fluid.

A. Elements of identification/familiarity of the device for evaluation in practical work (Allexperiments)
Spherical ball, cylindrical objects, vernier calipers, beaker, calorimeter, screw gauge, wire, beam balance, spring balance, weight box, gram and milligram weights, forceps, vector parallelogram apparatus, pulleys and trays used in the same “weights” used, Bob and rope used in a simple pendulum, meter scale, split cork, suspension arrangement, stopwatch/stopwatch, coil spring, suspension arrangement used, weights, arrangement used to measure l ‘extension, sound level meter, wedges, pan and pulley used in it, ‘weight’ tuning fork, metric scale, beam balance, weight box, gram and milligram weights, forceps, resonance tube, tuning fork, metric scale, flask/beaker used to add water.
B.List of practical work
1. To measure the diameter of a small spherical/cylindrical body using a vernier caliper.
2. Measure the internal diameter and depth of a given beaker/calorimeter using a caliper and thus find its volume.
3. To measure the diameter of a given wire using a screw gauge.
4. To measure the thickness of a given sheet using a screw gauge.

7. Using a simple LT and LT pendulum diagram^{2} graphics. So find the effective length of the second’s pendulum using the appropriate length values.

9. (i) Investigate the relationship between frequency and length of a given wire under constant tension using a sound level meter.
(ii) Investigate the relationship between the length of a given wire and the voltage, at constant frequency, using a sound level meter.
10. Find the speed of sound in air, at room temperature, using a resonance tube, observing the two resonance positions.
