Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has set up a class 10,000 clean room to enhance research activities, as well as a sophisticated femtosecond laser facility in its physics department.

The clean room was built as part of the university’s Center of Excellence in Advanced Materials using the government’s Plan Fund.

Cleanrooms are categorized by the number and size of particles allowed per volume of air. The Class 10,000 cleanroom contains less than 10,000 particles per cubic foot, according to an official statement.

The clean room’s modern femtosecond laser facility was set up at a cost of ₹3 crore. It produces ultra-fast lasers in femtoseconds. The lab is part of cross-departmental research activities in physics, chemistry, photonics, biotechnology and polymer science under the Chancellor’s Award 2019.
