14 public schools in Chandigarh will have a robotics lab: The Tribune India

As a first step, UT’s Department of Education plans to set up a robotics lab in 14 public schools to provide hands-on learning and promote critical thinking among students.

For the establishment of the lab, an expenditure of Rs 91 lakh in each of the groups was approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in a Project Approval Board meeting.

Each lab will have a robot kit to help students understand the practical concept of science and math using the “learning by doing” approach where students will be facilitated with hands-on experiences. The lab will also have DIY circuit kits to help students understand basic laws of physics circuits and a programming kit that will help them mix their thoughts in various areas of robotics and find its applications through programming and coding skills.

A mechanical construction set will complement the craft kits, helping students take things to the next level. Students will be able to physically see and observe the designs they have made on the CAD software using a 3D printer and pen. Another feature of the lab will be mechanical fabrication tools to help students fabricate their designs using pliers, tools, pliers and hacksaws. Safety equipment will be kept in the lab to ensure safety during project delivery and prototyping.

Previously, six “Atal Tinkering Labs”, a flagship initiative of the Indian government’s Atal Innovation Mission, aimed at cultivating an innovative mindset among high school students, were being established in public schools in Chandigarh.
